"If you didn't like the film, you'll probably enjoy the book more; while the film was more of a number of scenes stitched together with no apparent relevance, the book makes everything so much clearer. Even the apparently meaningless bike scene has relevance to the plot in the novel, and some of the plot changes made in the film are somewhat ridiculous. I recommend the book to anyone, but particularly those who didn't like the film."

"Absolutely loved it. Such an amazing film and so terribly, terribly sad."

"Of all comic book movies which come to mind, Iron Man 2 probably had most in common with the likes of Watchmen, as it was more concerned with exploring the scientific/intellectual side of the medium. It was a slow, brooding piece carried along, just as in the first movie, by Robert Downey Jr. with typical, envy-inducing aplomb. But he was almost matched this time by a considered performance from Sam Rockwell who played a villain which reminded me of Alan Rickman's Sheriff Of Nottingham. Mickey Rourke is also worth a mention, as he added something different to the mix. But the mix was slightly unbalanced overall in this film, lacking in one vital ingredient: action."

"It's a good film, but it is very hard to rate/review - particularly when comparing it to other films. Not a lot happens - but that's not really the point - and most of the weight of the film rests on Colin Firth's shoulders, which he supports very well. Tom Ford's directorial style was also impressive: I felt that the use of colour was perhaps a little overdone and that it didn't always feel particularly 60s, but that the overall style was very artful - particularly George's house, which is one of the most amazing buildings, let alone sets, which I have ever seen. Anyway, it is a little depressing, but it's still worth a watch, if only for an appreciation of Firth's performance and Ford's direction."

"I was disappointed at how condensed the story was; elements simply missed out, the timescale seemingly shortened and the the entire film toned down in terms of profanity and sexual content. Susie's father's plight is represented not quite as strongly as in the book; he discusses possible leads with police officer Len with more excitement than sadness, mentioning child molestation without a blink. Later, Susie's father's run-in with Brian and Clarissa is less serious, and his heart attack is completely ignored. Nevertheless, the main story stays, and the film is still relatively melancholic, and much more serious than one would expect having seen the trailer; some scenes appear very dark, and while Susie's rape has been left out altogether, it is still suggested later in the film. The surrealist imagery almost makes it worthwhile for the would-be art student; the CGI is beautiful and makes up for the scenes in which the cinematography is not as impressive (read: detail shots, which look like they've been shot with a somewhat fish-eye lens on a cheap camera). Overall, worth a watch."
