"It's a good film, but it is very hard to rate/review - particularly when comparing it to other films. Not a lot happens - but that's not really the point - and most of the weight of the film rests on Colin Firth's shoulders, which he supports very well. Tom Ford's directorial style was also impressive: I felt that the use of colour was perhaps a little overdone and that it didn't always feel particularly 60s, but that the overall style was very artful - particularly George's house, which is one of the most amazing buildings, let alone sets, which I have ever seen. Anyway, it is a little depressing, but it's still worth a watch, if only for an appreciation of Firth's performance and Ford's direction."

"I was disappointed at how condensed the story was; elements simply missed out, the timescale seemingly shortened and the the entire film toned down in terms of profanity and sexual content. Susie's father's plight is represented not quite as strongly as in the book; he discusses possible leads with police officer Len with more excitement than sadness, mentioning child molestation without a blink. Later, Susie's father's run-in with Brian and Clarissa is less serious, and his heart attack is completely ignored. Nevertheless, the main story stays, and the film is still relatively melancholic, and much more serious than one would expect having seen the trailer; some scenes appear very dark, and while Susie's rape has been left out altogether, it is still suggested later in the film. The surrealist imagery almost makes it worthwhile for the would-be art student; the CGI is beautiful and makes up for the scenes in which the cinematography is not as impressive (read: detail shots, which look like they've been shot with a somewhat fish-eye lens on a cheap camera). Overall, worth a watch."

"I was unimpressed, to tell the truth. The 3D was barely noticeable except for when it was used for clichéd and forced out-of-screen moments, and the way that the story was entirely changed - Wonderland renamed to "Underland", the use of the Red Queen instead of Queen of Hearts while still having playing cards for soldiers instead of chess pieces, and the more terrifying than endearing craziness of the tea party - ruined it for me. I performed in a theatre adaptation of the two books once, the role of Dormouse; that Dormouse is now a thimble-sized, useless female character. I feel violated."

"As a visual spectacle, this is nothing short of brilliance. The world of Pandora, the foliage, the Navi race and all of the creatures are so well realised that you have no trouble entirely accepting them as reality. But the narrative, on the flip-side, is nothing short of lackluster. It does a lot right, and the general plot that humans are going to ravage a world/race living in harmony is a good one; but - and it's a big but - the pacing is all wrong. It's likely the result of Cameron trying to pack so much into 2.5-3 hours of so that the film ended up as, and as with a lot of long films, it should have probably been an hour or two longer - or split across two films. However, the were also deeper problems than this in the script: dialogue, although sparse, was largely poor; only the films two/three main protagonists were anything like fleshed out enough - and thus we never really cared about the other characters all that much - and there were scenes, such as the overhead-shot of Sully and Neytiri swimming, which were far too fleeting, or other times when we saw the same thing too many time, such as the Navi rituals. It is definitely worth seeing though - the breathtaking vistas, the charming message at the heart of the story, and Zoe Saldana's spectacular performance as an alien being which you just might fall in love with. But ultimately there is so much potential here for a triple-A sequel/continuing franchise, and I for one cannot wait!"

"A film definitely worth seeing! I watched this in 3D and really enjoyed it. It was a fresh approach to most science fiction films I have seen with some great special effects."
