(500) Days of Summer

Boy meets girl. Boy falls in love. Girl doesn't. This post modern love story is never what we expect it to be--it's thorny yet exhilarating, funny and sad, a twisted journey of highs and lows that doesn't quite go where we think it will. When Tom, a hapless greeting card copywriter and hopeless romantic, is blindsided after his girlfriend Summer dumps him, he shifts back and forth through various periods of their 500 days "together" to try to figure out where things went wrong. His reflections ultimately lead him to finally rediscover his true passions in life.

I really thought that this was one of the best romances I have seen in years. It intellectualises the genre in a way which I haven't seen before, and which ultimately makes you question not only what a love story is, but what love itself is. Performances from both of the leading parts are wonderful to watch - you will literally fall in love with Deschanel along with Tom(!), and the only thing which lets the film down a little are some slight misjudgments in terms of the script/directing. Nevertheless, I would highly recommend that you see this little gem if you haven't already done so.

You've convinced me. It's the only film I've really wanted to see in ages. I'll tell you what I think when I've seen it.

Haha, just went and saw it; loved virtually every minute of it. The only reason I say "virtually" is that I was unfortunately a little bit late, by around fifteen minutes. Entirely my sister's fault. I'm single at the moment, and I'm not sad enough to go see a romantic comedy by myself (yet), so I dragged her along and she's never been the fastest of people. Great film though, unexpected and very un-Hollywoodish ending. It did seem oddly depressing though. I mean, technically it's a happy ending, but it just seemed too soon. Sequel time?

Yeah me to, the trailer looks good as does the soundtrack.

I'm really looking forward to this film, to be honest. I'm slightly disappointed that it's not coming out here in the UK until September though.
